That sometimes endings need to be bitter if only in the short term to enable a necessary parting of the ways to take place.  This helped me to come to terms with someone leaving my life by giving me a way to understand why it happened in the way it did.  We later made peace but did not become friends.  Another piece of advice I heard which I thought was lovely is to live each day as if it is your first.

Don't give advices unless asked for

yes, it's always unwise to give unsolicited advice. You'll never know that you can be prying rather than helping

My mentor once asked me: "Do you want to be right, or do you want to be happy?"
Too many times we're so focused on proving ourselves right & proving the other person wrong,
that we destroy our own peace & happiness in the process.
