Thanks for posting that, Fatoniks. I'll definitely have a look at that later.

Hello! I hope you enjoy the discussions here.

It looks as if the founder of the School felt uncomfortable having someone on the site who was not only happy to answer any questions about study & learning techniques, memory and cognitive enhancement, but also had made it their business to try and really "do their homework" on such matters. In particular, I could see straight through the claims for Magic Pill Now and wasn't afraid to say so on my blog.

Strangely, the admins there don't even apparently have the ability to sort out or reinstate my account. Such requests have to be done through the founder/owner of the school. The fact that he hasn't replied rather confirms my suspicions that the reason I got locked out in the first place had something to do with him.

Anyway, the point of posting this isn't to complain and moan about no longer having access to the site, but to make sure I am still visible around the various personal development related forums where students and ex-students of the School are likely to hang out. If you were a member of that site, I used to post there under my other screen handle of SevenSigma. Please stay in touch, and I am still more than happy to answer your questions here or via my blog. Thanks.

Bradley is an internet marketeer, not a psychologist or neuroscientist.

There is a lot of confusion out there as to what hypnosis is. I wonder just how much of that confusion has been deliberately left in place in the minds of the public, or even added to, over the years by those who would rather we didn't know.

That's all I have ever been able to find too, Fatoniks.

As someone whose virtual self-development bibles are Megabrain and Mega Brain Power, I have long been scouring the net for other things written by Michael Hutchison.

Someone somewhere must surely have kept copies of the newsletters that they could easily scan in and post somewhere?

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

Dave Siever says of his light/sound devices that it is the goggles that are doing two thirds of the work. I guess the same is true if you use NP3 with the flashing screen.

This is not surprising when you consider that, while there are about 10,000 nerve fibres leading to the brain from each ear, there are about 2 million nerve fibres from each eye!

Some people find even fairly weak audio-only entrainment (binaural beats masked with music, for example) works very well. Unfortunately, I am not one of them. I feel I need the visual stimulus before I can detect anything happening.

I think you could still use the NP3 flashing screen while studying. Just push your monitor to the back of the desk, put the keyboard to one side, and do your homework in front of the screen.

What do you mean by hypnosis tracks? Do you mean affirmations and things like that? NP3 can play them in the background while using a session. The manual gives very clear instructions on how to use the text-to-speech editor and things like that.

I don't recommend hypnosis because, for starters, nobody can give a straight answer as to what it is!  If you mean being in a focused or flow state, that's not hypnosis. That's just hyper-focus. That's a good thing!

The problem is that hypnosis has been redefined a few times over the years, so that now people who have read Uncommon Knowledge or any of its subsequent derivative works believe that a person can enter a hypnotic state purely by watching TV, being absorbed in a good book, concentrating on some hobby pursuit, relaxing, visualizing, or being swept up in the feeling at a great concert. If the idea was to change hypnosis' public image by reframing it as all or any of these focused states, then the PR worked!

In the 1950s, hypnosis was understood to mean an operator giving commands to a patient's subconscious mind. Whatever they were doing, it was powerful stuff and potentially dangerous. At least the "hypnosis downloads" sold today are so wishy-washy, they're unlikely to do you any harm. However, I doubt they will do much good either. Save your money.

How experienced are you at using AVE?  Are you a beginner, or have you been using various AVE technology for some time?

The instruction book for my DAVID device says that alpha is best for beginners, as it is the easiest frequency to entrain. Then you can start experimenting with other frequencies. Theta can be difficult to entrain.

The flashing screen is better than no visual entrainment at all. I found it helps if you sit right up close to the screen. It should be OK to do this with most modern flat-screen PC's.
44  Self Improvement / Hypnosis, NLP & Subliminals / Re: So, what exactly IS hypnosis? on: November 02, 2011, 01:36:28 PM
I feel that hypnosis is about taking advantage of several built in brain 'processes' for want of a better word -  such as our inability to understand language without living it internally, and a natural predisposition to mimic often seen in children which may lead to rapport techniques in adult life - side effects of evolution if you wish.

Thanks. Please describe.

The more technical/detailed, the better!  Smiley

Yes! I've been getting up much more easily in the mornings with regular use of AVE. Although I prefer a light/sound machine with goggles to Neuroprogrammer, as the goggles give a stronger visual entrainment effect.
